CSA Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the fruit and vegetable share? As the name suggests, our program includes FRUIT in addition to vegetables. We work with other local farms to provide you with a very diverse variety throughout the season. You can also purchase other products  from us throughout the season. 

Do I get to choose what is in my share every week? Yes! We first use an algorithm that builds a share based on your product preferences and what we have available. You can then customize your share and change it to fit your exact needs that week. 

What share size should I order? This is a difficult question for us to answer for you because it really depends on how much produce your household eats. We have single, one-person households that get our largest share size. We also have members with multiple people in the household who get the smallest share size. Try to estimate how much you spend on produce in an average week and choose a share size close to that amount. We are members of our own CSA (2 adults, 2 young children) and get the largest size with several add-ons and still need more. That being said, we cook frequently and eat lots of produce. We generally recommend the regular size as a starting point for most members. Please know you can always change your share size and/or add more to your base share whenever you would like. Do I have to pay for the entire season up front? No, your membership with us is pay-as-go, no commitment, cancel anytime (we know you will love it and won't cancel)!

What if I am on vacation or do not want a share for a week/weeks? No Problem! You can skip any weeks you do not want a share and you will not be charged.

Can I change my share size? Yes! We want you to be comfortable with how much food you are getting in your share and can increase or decrease the size to meet your needs. You can also always add on more produce/products to your base share size and will be charged the difference. 

I don't have one of the add-on shares, but would still like some of the items occasionally, is that possible? Yes, some of the time. Members who signed up for the add shares will get first dibs on items and any extra will be offered a-la-carte. If we have 100 members with egg shares, and 110 dozen available, only 10 will be available to purchase a-la-carte that week. Some of the more perishable items, such as bread and mushrooms, will generally only be for members with add-on shares for them. Signing up for the add-shares not only guarantees you will get it, but also gives you an opportunity to try different flavors of items and skips the hassle of remembering to order them each week. 

Can I change my pick-up location/home delivery? Yes, you can always change your delivery options. 

Is your produce organic? No, we are not certified organic, but adhere to most organic practices. We do not use any synthetic pesticides or herbicides. We do use some fertilizer and have a certified nutrient management plan for the farm. If you have questions about our growing practices, please ask us!

What if I forget to pick up my share? We will do our best to find a way for you to get your share if it is forgotten, but no refunds or credits will be given if you do not get your share. It takes a great deal of time and care to harvest, clean, and prepare shares for our members. Please set a reminder on your phone. You will also receive both an email and text reminder. Choose to skip your share if you know you will not be able to pick it up that week. If you forget your share at a pickup location off of them farm, it will be donated.

Do you offer discounts on bulk purchases? Yes, if you would like to purchase anything in bulk from us (i.e. cucumbers for pickling, tomatoes for canning, etc.), we offer you the same pricing as our wholesale buyers. 

Do I take the box with me every week? No, please bring your own bags to unpack your share into and leave the box for reuse. If you are a home delivery member, please remember to leave your box for our delivery driver to pick up the following week. We will also reuse egg cartons. 

What if my share order is incorrect or if I have an issue? If you ever have any issues, please contact us and we will make it right! 

Why is there a credit card surcharge added to my order? We add a 3% surcharge to help us cover the costs of the fees we have to pay to be able to accept credit cards. We can accept checks or cash and there will not be a surcharge added.

What is a CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a farming model in which consumers purchase food directly from the farmers who grow it. By investing in our farm each year, Members help ensure the ongoing presence of their local farm in the community, and become connected with their food and the people who grow it. Farming is risky business, and CSA Members' direct investment in sustainable agriculture helps guarantee the presence of small, diversified family farms in our community.

What is CSAware?
CSAware is a software platform that helps CSA farmers meet their customers' needs through a customizable farm share program. When you sign up for a Pleasant Hill Produce CSA Share, you will do so under our personal sign up page through the CSAware website.

Each week's share will be based on your preferences. For example: don't like beets? You will never get them in your share! And each week you can further customize your share, as well as order extras if you like.

CSAware gives you more choice and flexibility while still supporting local, seasonal farmers!

After signing up for our CSA, we will provide you with a list of all the crops that we grow and you will rate each item from 1 ("I never want it in my share") to 5 ("I love it!").​ Based on your preferences and our seasonal harvests each week, CSAware chooses what will go in your share and sends a notification to you about your share. By setting your individual vegetable preferences  when you sign up, your weekly share is automatically tailored to your personal tastes or dietary requirements. After receiving the notification, you will be able to fully customize your share for the week to get exactly what you want!
